Growing up with my family, it was always about eating together and never complaining about eating too much food. Losing weight or positive body image was never the topic subject in the family. At the age of 16 I was insecure about my weight. I felt angry at my mom for thinking that I didn't need a diet. 5 years later, I was a college student; I had a blood infection from dirty creek water. I felt depressed; I was skipping classes and gaining a lot of weight, until one of my professors knew something was up with me. He sent me to see the school nurse. Then I was told to see both; a counselor and a nutritionist. I didn't feel like myself for a while.
Today I want to share a routine that changed my body and life forever. My routine includes healthy eating and exercising. I advise anyone starting a new diet, to do a quick research or visit a nutritionist to evaluate your metabolism type. Some people lose weight quicker by adding more carbohydrates to their diet. I am one of those people. If you are vegetarian, you may have a completely different routine. Check with a professional in this field before you begin your weight loss journey.
If you have a similar metabolism to mine, if you are still young and exercise often, then this diet can be good for you.
Breakfast- Don’t drink or use regular milk. 2% skim milk for cereal/drink. Eat an apple, banana or any kind of fruit for your vitamins. For proteins, use white eggs or any white meat. Don't forget to drink water during breakfast.
Lunch- Fill your plate with carbohydrates, proteins and vitamins (Always!). Fish is very healthy; chicken is another protein source that contains less fat. Avoid eating fast food, fried meat, especially red meat. Figure out how to get your proteins, without eating too much fat during lunch times. Also, remember to eat your fruits and drink plenty of water.
During my diet, I preferred a plate of chicken salad. Other times I would have fish, potatoes and vegetables. You can boil them all together and season it with olive oil, salt and vinegar. If you choose salmon fish, which most times is very soft, cook it in a frying pan with a little bit of butter. Never eat fried food during your diet. That worked for my metabolism and I guarantee it will work on yours!
Dinner- I worked out during night time, 7pm-8pm, my goal was to go to the gym energized, but not full! I recommend eating a salad or snack on skinny yogurts and fruits. Find a healthy snack you enjoy, drink plenty of water in between your meals and you will be able to spend 30 min to 1 hr. exercising!
Don't starve yourself during a diet. Diet works when you learn how to respond to your metabolism correctly. When you feel hungry, eat an apple instead of a chocolate bar. Don't order pizza, soda and fries; try to make something healthy on your own. It's fun and your body actually functions better.
For exercising, you don't have to have access to a gym; you can use a small space at home or your dorm room to do some exercises. You can google workout apps or go on YouTube for workout ideas.
